Thursday, Jul. 19, 1:00
In American Fire: Love, Arson, and Life in a Vanishing Land by Monica Hesse, the once-thriving coastal Virginian county of Accomack experienced a string of arson fires that roiled the community. Vigilante groups sprang up and police and firemen were stretched thin. What factors contributed to this area's decimated economy, making it a microcosm of rural America?  What motives do arsonists have, in particular, the arsonist found to be the culprit behind the numerous fires that caused a community to spend months in anguish? Come and discuss the book with us and enjoy refreshments too.

Any adult is invited to attend.  If you have questions, call Jackie Greene, Reference Librarian, at 936.442.7728, ext. 6314 or contact her at jgreene@countylibrary.org
