Preparing for a Victorian Christmas
Sayreville Public LibrarySaturday, Dec. 1, 2:00PM-4:00PM
During the 19th century, it took weeks to prepare for Christmas. There were fruitcakes and cookies to be baked, Christmas pudding was made on Stir Up Sunday (the last Sunday before the season of Advent), plus gifts needed to be wrapped. There was excitement in the air thinking about decorating the home and Christmas tree. Before store bought glass ornaments, the tree was decorated with fruit, toys, small gifts, and homemade decorations. Today, we will sip on cider and make an old time decoration or two for your Christmas tree.
Note: Ages 18+ only! Some supplies will be available. Please bring scissors, a glue stick, a stapler, and any fancy items…feathers, sequins, fancy paper etc.
